E-RHIS - European Research Infrastructure Heritage Science

The Project aims to offer high-tech research infrastructures for the characterization of archaeological finds to the community active in the field of cultural heritage, through the establishment of dedicated laboratories.

The European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science aims to offer high-tech research infrastructures for the characterization of archaeological finds to the community active in the field of cultural heritage, through the establishment of dedicated laboratories. The ISM, through its laboratories, is in fact able to provide a complete description of the archaeological finds as regards the identification of the starting materials, information on their age and geographical origin and on the technological processes adopted in the production of the artifacts. This is possible through the use of advanced magnetometric investigations and complementary spectroscopic, diffractometric and microscopic diagnostics: in particular magnetometric methods (M vs H and T) for the study of magnetic and micro-Raman properties, Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy ( LIBS), light microscopy. The analyzes, nano or micro-destructive, allow both a superficial and stratigraphic analysis of the archaeological find. The procedures developed for these activities can be applied in the characterization of construction and excavation materials.
