2D nanostructured materials self-organized on surfaces

The project activity is focused on the design, synthesis and study of low-dimensional systems.

The project activity is focused on the design, synthesis and study of low-dimensional systems. In particular: 2D systems formed by elements of groups IV and V; semiconductor nanostructures; self-assembled organic materials on surfaces; topological insulators; strongly correlated electron systems. The established collaboration between theoretical and experimental researchers, both Physicists and chemists, will allow the optimization of the synthesis methods of 2D materials already studied and the development of new materials, which will be studied by scanning probe microscopy techniques, spectroscopy techniques (optics and electronics) and first principle calculations.
Although the project is oriented towards basic research, the explored materials/processes have enormous potential for technological applications.
