Photoelectron-Photoion Coincidence Spectroscopy (PEPICO)

Photoelectron-Photoion Coincidence Spectroscopy (PEPICO)

In this technique, the energy of the incident photon, hv,is fixed and  via the detection of the photoelectron, a well defined ionic state of the system to be studied is selected. Then the detection of this electron in coincidence with the produced ion spectrum allows to perform an experiment of mass spectrometry selected in energy. By repeating the experiment at various photon energies, the fragmentation branching ratios of the different channels versus   the internal energy of the ion E = hv-Ip, where Ip is the ionization energy of the system, are obtained.
