X-Ray diffraction (XRD)

X-Ray diffraction (XRD)

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a non invasive technique used for determining the atomic and molecular structure of a material.
It has contributed significantly to scientific and technological progress in numerous fields, ranging from physics, to chemistry, from material science to geology, from biology to medicine. XRD represents an interdisciplinary science which has made it possible to substantially understand the nature of both intra- and inter-molecular chemical bonds. Since the properties of matter strongly depend on the atomic arrangement and their three-dimensional organization in space, the knowledge acquired through crystallographic studies allows to obtain materials with new properties and performances and / or to improve the properties of materials already known through targeted modifications of their structure.
