CNR-ISM has established the Istituto di Struttura della Materia Prize (PRISM) to recognize the significant contributions of researchers in the field of Structure of Matter over the past five years. The aim is to promote both fundamental and applied research in the fields of materials science and basic atomic, molecular, and solid-state physics.

The award is divided into two categories:
- PRISM Senior for candidates over 35 years old,
- PRISM Junior for candidates under 35 years old.

Winners in both categories will have the opportunity to utilize CNR-ISM resources for a research project and will be invited to give a seminar at an event dedicated to the theme of the award as guests of CNR-ISM.

The PRISM committee, composed of previous winners and CNR-ISM Branch Managers, will evaluate the applications and select the winners.
