Located in the UR-CST Campus of the University of Rwanda in Kigali, ICTP-EAIFR is an international research center of excellence set to become one of the leading physics institutes in Africa. It is a partner institute of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and a UNESCO Category 2 institute.
Since 2023, ICTP-EAIFR and CNR-ISM have initiated collaborations through two main actions led by Andrea Marini, senior researcher at CNR-ISM:
- The 7th African School on Electronic Structure Methods and Applications (ASESMA) held from June 12-23, 2023;
- Teaching in the Many-Body Physics course as part of the Master’s program in Physics (ICTP-EAIFR).
Through the agreement, CNR and ICTP-EAIFR aim to strengthen their collaboration with initiatives focusing on mutual interests, advanced training in physics, and the exchange of experiences and scientific results. The specific objectives include:
- Scientific exchanges through the reciprocal mobility of researchers for teaching and study and training periods;
- Support for thematic advanced training offered by ICTP-EAIFR through scholarships for deserving students from African countries.
The agreement has a duration of two years, renewable.
CNR-ISM personnel involved in the project: Andrea Marini (Project Leader), Carmen Gargiulo (Coordinator), and the administrative staff of the Institute.
