Control of degradation and synergistic mechanism of osteogenesis of Zn-Li alloys coated with tricalcium phosphate substituted with Sr and Cu for biomedical implants

The main objective of this project is to develop novel advanced materials for orthopaedic biomedical implants.

The main objective of this project is to develop novel advanced materials for orthopaedic biomedical implants. For this purpose, the biodegradable Zn-0.4Li (wt.%) alloy material will be prepared. The alloy surface will be coated with the resorbable Sr/Cu-co-substituted tricalcium phosphate bioceramics. The amount of Sr and Cu ion substitution for Ca ions will be chosen based on the literature data and our extensive experience. For coatings deposition, Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) method will be used. In the last decades, the PLD proved to be a reliable technique to process simple or complex materials as thin layers. This technique presents numerous advantages that makes it suitable to process biocompatible materials for biomedical applications.
