Structural/Morphological Characterization of Next generation Materials for Ultra High Temperature Energy Storage and Conversion

The project investigates the morphological-structural characteristics of innovative materials for high latent heat energy storage devices, developed within the European FET-OPEN AMADEUS project.

The project investigates the morphological-structural characteristics of innovative materials for high latent heat energy storage devices, developed within the European FET-OPEN AMADEUS project. The analysis, control and optimization of the chemical-physical characteristics (bulk and interface) of active materials is, indeed, a fundamental step for the development of innovative and efficient thermionic and photovoltaic systems and devices, capable of operating at high temperature. The investigation methodologies are mainly based on analysis of the morphological and structural properties through X-ray Reflectivity and Diffraction techniques in the energy dispersive mode (EDXR-EDXD) and in angular dispersion at high resolution. These techniques are supported by Micro Raman Spectroscopy able to provide information on the molecular composition, the bonds and the chemical environment, the phases and the crystalline structure of the samples under examination, in particular through the acquisition of two-dimensional and three-dimensional high-resolution maps, essential for the characterization of thin and multilayered films.
