  • Dr. Irene Paola De Padova is Research scientist in Physics with 24 years of scientific activity in: Ge/Si epitaxial growth by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), by using As, Sb and Bi metal atoms surfactants, of Metal/Semiconductor interfaces; III-V semiconductors; IV-IV Si, Ge and SiGe systems; Mn-doped Ge diluted magnetic semiconductors; Si nanostructures at atomic scale on metal surfaces; hybrid organic/inorganic solar cells; metal and semiconductor oxides; isolated and dense arrays of silicene nanoribbons and 2D sheets on Ag(110) and Ag(111) studied by means of photoelectron spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation. In the last years, she has given a strong contribution to the realization and study of silicene systems

Synthesis of new macrocyclic sensitizers for photoelectrochemical devices


Dye-sensitized solar cells were developed by the Swiss chemist Michael Grätzel in 1991 and are also known as “Grätzel cells”. They are electrochemical multicomponent “sandwich-type” devices which are a promising alternative to the conventional silicon-based cells, because of their lower costs of production and of the significant improvements in the fields of molecular electronics and nanotechnology, which have allowed to push the efficiency values of these devices from an original 7% in 1991 up to 13%. ...
